The 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup final match will be remembered for being one of the best in terms of the quality of cricket played by both the winners India and runners up South Africa going by the latest Indian cricket news. Both teams were unbeaten in their journey from the group matches right up to the finals and they were easily the most deserving teams to be playing in the title decider.

For South Africa it was already a milestone that they reached the finals of an International Cricket Council [ICC] tournament as this was the first time they managed to do so.

As far as India is concerned, they came in as one of the top favourites of the tournament and lived up to their reputation in style, vanquishing all the teams they played against. Of course the match against Pakistan was stretched just like it was against South Africa in the finals.

South Africa had to break the jinx about their historic failure to finish big games in big tournaments and are called “Chokers” for this drawback in their performance record according to today cricket news in Hindi.

This was their biggest opportunity to prove the world wrong and they got very close to what would have been a well-deserved victory to wash away the negative tag, “Chokers” for good.

India’s decision to bat first almost backfired

At the post match interview, Indian captain, Rohit Sharmadid admit that he and his team misread the pitch somewhat, which they thought would get slower and provide spinners some grip.

The pitch did remain slow but offered no grip or turn although it had good bounce which made batting easier as per the latest Indian cricket news.

Sharma along with number three and four in the batting order, Rishab Pant and Surya Kumarrespectively, all of whom had a good tournament up to the semi final, fell early and suddenly India was struggling.

However, India’s batting depth stood up for them and Virat Kohli, who had failed as an opener throughout the tournament, came good with a well-made 76 off 58 balls at a strike rate 131.

Kohli’s innings basically anchored the Indian batting performance after it got a shock treatment when the in-form top order was blown away with the scoreboard reading just 34.

Indian bowling and fielding kept up the pressure

Led by the precision pace bowling of Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian pace attack led from the front and kept getting wickets despite the partnership between Heinrich Klassen and David Miller.

That was when Klassen, known for his superb ability against spin bowling, bludgeoned 24 runs off Axar Patel’s last over. At the end of the 15th over, South Africa needed just 30 runs at the asking rate of one run with a rampaging Klassen on the crease as per reports in the latest Indian cricket news.

That was when the Indian captain Sharma recalled his pace bowlers with the ever brilliant Bumrah leading the charge. While Hardik Pandiya derailed the rampaging run of Klassen, Bumrah squeezed up the runs and also bowled Marco Jansen out.

Finally in the last over with South Africa needing 12 runs, Surya Kumar Yadav took a blinder of a catch to a shot by Miller that was destined for a six and the match went out of South Africa’s hands for the last time.

India has regained the T20 World Cup for the first time after winning the innaugural edition of the tournament in 2007.
